I am a wife, a mom of three, a lover of all things home and the founder of The Common Nest.
It is my mission to encourage and support as many people as possible in creating happier and healthier homes with a holistic approach. Because I have experienced and seen how life changing this can be.
I always wanted to be a wife, a mother and a homemaker, and I am incredibly well-suited to home creation. So…
I thought it would be easier..
I thought I would enjoy it more…
I thought I would feel more fulfilled…
But… I really struggled over the years, especially when my children were young. It turns out that motherhood was much harder than I imagined. I heaped so many unrealistic expectations on myself for my home and my role, and felt crushed trying to live up to them.
Hi. I ‘m Christy.
While everything may have looked good on the surface, I felt very different underneath. Exhaustion consumed me, overwhelming feelings loomed large, and I often doubted my own value and worth. I felt like something was missing, yet I struggled to know exactly what. It was these feelings that led me on a journey to where I am today.
I started to take a really good look at myself and my home systems, and tried to figure out how I was going to make some changes to turn things around. Essentially, I was looking for how I was going to make things easier, so I could be happier at home with my kids. I tried so many things - I did all the tips, tricks, hacks, systems and methods- you name it I tried it, and I still struggled.
Slowly, I began to realize that the solution was more about my approach to home, than my methods. I learned to create home with a more holistic approach and it changed my life.
When we create home holistically, we understand how everything needs to work together for us to have true success, fulfillment and joy. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, so when one part is out of balance, the whole system is out of balance. That lack of balance is how we find ourselves living in survival mode, feeling overwhelmed, defeated, resentment, angry, unfulfilled and lacking joy in our homes and our lives.
Through years of experience in my own home, researching a variety of different methods and in helping others, I have discovered there are five common challenges that many of us encounter in creating a home: Mindset, Clutter, Time, Energy, and Décor. When we find ourselves struggling or getting hung up on something, it is usually rooted in one these five areas and the lack of balance between them.
Drawing upon my diverse background in psychology, spiritual ministry, real estate, and art & design, as well as years of personal experiences, I developed The Foundations of Home - a comprehensive framework to address these challenges and offer real solutions with a holistic approach.
The Common Nest was created to share this vision of creating home with a holistic approach and to teach the Foundations of Home.
I am passionate about helping you create a home you truly love with a holistic approach that will change your life.
I hope you will join me on this journey of creating a Holistic Home—one that enables you to unlock greater success, fulfillment, and joy in both your home and your life.

ENTREPRENEUR
I have an entrepreneurial spirit. From "Art Shows " as a child, to side-hustles as a teenager and other pursuits as an adult, I am drawn to entrepreneurial life. In my life before children, I owned and operated a small business in art and design creating wedding invitations and personal stationary. It was a small operation, but it taught me about running a business, chasing after dreams and the value of living creatively.
HOUSE & HOME
I have loved all things House and Home for as long as I can remember. Decorating, designing staging, renovating, fixing and more. I grew up in a Real Estate family, so houses are in my bones. Over the years, my whole family has had their hands in building, buying, renovating, flipping and selling houses. I have lived in 21 different homes.
HOMEMAKER
I have been a full-time homemaker for 12 years. Homemaking is a passion and when we were expecting our first child, I chose to make it my full-time work. It was both an easy and hard decision. I am so well suited to homemaking, yet I felt a profound sense of loss and struggled with my identity in not working outside the home. It really was the best decision! I have the privilege to chose to be home and fully present in the lives of my husband and our three children, one boy and two girls. And I get to create a home for us all to thrive!
WIFE
I am married to one truly amazing man! He is a seriously top-notch human! There are no words for his significance in my life. We have been devoted to each other for more years than not. My love for him is beyond measure. He is a wonderful companion and a compliment. Our relationship is made of dreams, endless prayers and a lot of very intentional work.
MINIMALISM
I am an aspiring minimalist. A cozy minimalist groupie, focusing on function, style and beauty with less stuff. Minimalism is more than decluttering and living in a sparse environment. Minimalism contains to idea of stewardship, slowing down, simple living, tending to the important things and finding satisfaction in the pursuit of meaningful relationships and activities. I believe minimalism is a form of self-care.
WELLNESS
I am continuously striving to live well. Totally passionate about mental, emotional, physical, social, spiritual and environmental wellness. I love learning and sharing about overall wellbeing and creating a thriving life.
CREATIVE
I am a huge creative. I love to make, create, craft and build. I strongly believe that every person is uniquely creative and that tapping into our creative expression is vital to living well.
AUDIOBOOKS & PODCASTS
I am an avid Audiobook & Podcast listener, devouring 250+ books and 100s of hours a year in a wide variety of genres and topics. Did I mention love learning?
I bring all of these elements to The Common Nest. When we work together, I am pulling from a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences. All of which are wonderfully suited to help you create the home and the life of your dreams!
